Japanese lecture by Kamonohashi : Same pronunciation but different meaning

When you want say "I use chopsticks " , you can say

わたし　わ　はし　を　つかいます。
(watashi wa hashi wo tsukaimasu)

and , when you want say "That is a bridge " , you can say

あれ　は　はし　です。
(are wa hashi desu)


はし(hashi),はし(hashi)


same pronunciation!!!

But , first Hashi means chopsticks and next means bridge.


In Japanese words , there are many words such these .

We call these words ,

同音異義語
どうおんいぎご
(dou on igi go)

同音(douon): same sound(: pronunciation)

異議(igi):different meaning

語(go):words


I guess , you will be so confused when you heard those words in Japanese.

And , this rule is very difficult for you I think.

So , please study about 同音異義語(dou on igi go) gradually if you interested in.
